The automobile chassis consists of four parts: transmission system, drive system, steering system and braking system.

The role of the chassis is to support and install the automobile engine and its parts and assemblies to form the overall shape of the car, and accept the engine's power, so that the car produces movement, to ensure that the car can be driven normally.

1.Transmission system

Transmission system consists of clutch, transmission, drive shaft, universal joint, main reducer, differential and transmission half shaft.

The function of the transmission system is to transfer the power of the engine to the drive wheels to drive the car.

The transmission system has the functions of deceleration, speed change, reversing, interrupting power, inter-wheel differential and inter-axle differential. It works together with the engine to ensure the normal traveling of the car under various working conditions.

2. Drive system

The drive system is generally composed of frame, axle, wheels and suspension.

The role of the drive system is to convert the torque from the transmission system into the ground traction force on the car; to withstand a variety of external forces and moments on the car; to reduce vibration, ease the impact, to ensure that the car runs normally and smoothly.

3. Steering System

The steering system consists of steering wheel, steering column, steering gear, steering power mechanism and so on.

The role of steering system is to ensure that the car can drive or steer in a straight line according to the driver's wishes. The steering system of an automobile is divided into two categories, mechanical steering system and power steering system, according to the different steering energy.

4. Brake system

The function of the brake system is to slow down the automobile or stop it within a short distance as required. The braking system generally consists of a service brake and a parking brake. The service brake can be divided into disk brake and drum brake. At present, disc brakes are commonly used in automobile braking systems.

(1) Service Brake The service brake is a braking device operated by the driver's foot and is often used in driving. This brake is installed on all wheels of the vehicle.

(2) Parking brake The parking brake is a braking device operated by the driver's hand and is mainly used to prevent the vehicle from skidding after stopping. The parking brake can be used temporarily when the service brake fails or when starting on an incline. In an ordinary automobile (sedan), the braking system is equipped with only the service brake and the parking brake.

Summary:

The role of steering system is to ensure that the car can drive or steer in a straight line according to the driver's wishes. The steering system of an automobile is divided into two categories, mechanical steering system and power steering system, according to the different steering energy.
